Don Takeda Science Center

Santa Clarita, CA

The Don Takeda Science Center’s 35,000 square feet of classroom space is located adjacent to the Main Entry Plaza. The above-grade, two-story Biology and Chemistry floors provide 20,000 square feet of much-needed teaching and learning space for the sciences that is easily accessed from the Upper Plaza.

The easily identifiable vertical circulation core overlooks the Main Plaza, directing and orienting students, faculty, and visitors, while at the same time providing a natural visual guide to the campus.

The Don Takeda Science Center is named in honor of longtime biology instructor, Don Takeda.

“Don’s career is truly remarkable, and he has touched thousands of lives as he inspired not only his students, but all of us at College of the Canyons who were lucky enough to count him as a colleague and as a friend” — Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Takeda was recognized for his significant contributions to the biological sciences during his 46-year teaching career at College of the Canyons, which began on January 1, 1972. He was also the biology department chair for over 25 years.

The building received the 2016 Award of Honor at the CCFC Professional Design Awards.
