Peabody Charter School — New Classroom Buildings

This project replaced five portable classroom buildings that had been on campus for close to 30 years. The site design divided up the new classrooms into three separate buildings for a total of 7360 square feet.
Attention was spent on using as much natural light as possible by specifying dimming skylights for all classrooms. The addition of air conditioning was incorporated for student and staff comfort.
The site design was to surround the playfield perimeter. This created a space that staff could easily monitor for safety. The site design also respected the campus exterior vegetable gardens, which are very important to the campus education program.
The design for this project started in 2000. Construction started in August 2022 and wrapped up in September 2023. McGillivray Construction completed this project, and they did a wonderful job. Julie Wendt, KBZ Associate, was the Project Architect. Joe Wilcox and Stuart Hauck followed the project during the construction administration phase. The Peabody Charter School administration was very involved and helpful in designing the specific classroom layouts and site design.
