The building is located on the lower level of the tiered campus setting. The low slung form of the New Library and Classroom results from the existing campus architecture as well as the desire to maintain existing ocean views from the upper level campus. To maximize natural daylight the north and south facades of the Library reading room are fully glazed. An external shading device along the south facade was developed from computer modeling to provide protection from the low winter sun.
