Santa Paula Mill and Depot Restoration

Santa Paula, CA

The Santa Paula Mill & Depot Restoration consisted of site improvements and rehabilitating an existing century-old Mill building, which was converted into an agricultural museum. Due to the Mill’s historical architectural value, the original construction materials and architectural features have been significantly preserved.

The primary objective was to retrofit the structural framework throughout the building, which was achieved by adding new roof trusses that matched the profile of the existing, termite-ridden wood and providing new shear walls with foundation systems and floor diaphragms.

To meet current code requirements for accessibility, new ramps, accessible entrances and signage were added. New multi-occupancy accessible restrooms were also added as well as an office adjacent to the lobby/retail area by the main entrance. A raised outdoor exhibit deck and a new entrance element with a gable roof were added to enhance the front elevation.
